Auxiliary History
at Mid Coast Hospital

The Mid Coast Hospital Auxiliary, formed Oct. 1, 2001, is extremely active in supporting the mission of the hospital. All interested persons in our communities are welcome to join the Auxiliary by paying dues. All Auxilians receive free copies of the Volunteer Pulse newsletter, published by the Volunteer Services Department, as well as invitations to all Auxiliary functions and many hospital functions. Many Auxilians also choose to volunteer in the hospital, showing further support for quality healthcare in our communities.

Prior to Oct. 1, 2001, the Bath and Brunswick Auxiliaries existed in their communities to support the mission for over 100 combined years. They merged into one Auxiliary, just prior to the opening of the new hospital. Together, the Auxiliaries have completed three pledges for a total donation of $550,000 to the capital campaign for the new hospital. They were the largest contributors to the campaign. The Auxiliary is now working on a three-year $150,000 pledge for the new CT scan.

The Auxiliary meets in the Fall for the annual meeting. The Board meets monthly except in the summer months. Minutes of the Auxiliary Board meetings are posted in the Volunteer Office.

The Auxiliary sponsors the Gift Shop with proceeds benefiting MCH. Other major fundraisers such as holiday fairs, book sales, house tours, boat cruises and yard sales benefit the hospital, too.

The Auxiliary is very proud of its efforts in supporting health career scholarships for students going to four-year colleges, technical colleges or other specialized training. About $35,000 is awarded every Spring to deserving Mid Coast students. Continuing education scholarships are also awarded to employees. Applications for scholarships are available from the Department of Volunteer Services.
